Earlier this year, one of our Kenyan farms – KS Farm – won an award for "Most efficient constructed wetlands” at the Kenya Flower Council (KFC) Floriculture Pinnacle Awards!

The purpose of wetlands

Wetlands play a critical role in filtering water, storing carbon, and supporting biodiversity. However, approximately 64% of global wetlands have disappeared since 1900 due to human activities. Marginpar’s constructed wetland addresses this challenge by mimicking the natural processes of wetlands to treat wastewater sustainably.

How do they work?

The system uses aquatic plants and microorganisms to purify water. It integrates innovative features such as Fat-Oil-Grease separators and deactivation pits, ensuring efficient wastewater treatment while creating habitats for diverse wildlife. At the end of the process, the water is clean and can be used to water the flower fields. Did you know that all of our own flower farms have constructed wetlands?
