Belgian Flower Arranging Championship

This year, the Féerie Florale was held at Alden Biesen Castle, located near Bilzen, Belgium. During the Féerie Florale, the Belgian Flower Arranging Championship also took place. Over two days, contestants gave their best efforts and completed challenging tasks.

Marginpar was present as a flower sponsor on Friday, 27th September, and also attended the VIP evening, hosted by Stefan van Berlo and Françoise Vandonink. During the exciting award ceremony, Chantal Post was crowned Belgian Champion — a wonderful moment! The second place went to Marc Noël, and Max Hurtaud came in third. They all performed brilliantly.

As the Belgian Champion, Chantal Post will represent Belgium at the World Cup Floral Design. The World Cup will take place from 28th to 31st August 2025 in The Hague. The preparations are in full swing, and it promises to be a true spectacle. Ticket sales have already started, so don’t wait too long to get one of the coveted tickets.

Generous Sponsors

The sponsors of the Belgian Championship, Smithers-Oasis, Decorum, Agora, and Crauwels-Peers, all contributed wonderful prizes for the winner. Marginpar, as a sponsor, awarded a cheque worth €500. Chantal Post can use this cheque to select flowers from our range for the World Cup. We wish Chantal the best of luck with her preparations!

Demonstration by Hanneke Frankema

Guests at the VIP evening were also treated to a fantastic demonstration by Hanneke Frankema. Hanneke showcased some of the frames she used for the European Championship and shared valuable tips with the audience about materials and techniques. As always, it was a delight to watch Hanneke, also known as the “Iron Lady” for her distinctive wirework techniques, on stage.

Hanneke used several Marginpar flowers in her demonstration. The newly reintroduced Clematis Amazing® Tokyo was featured in a beautiful fan with Art Deco influences. Hanneke told the audience: "A lovely Clematis variety is back, and they look stunning in this fan. They have many flowers spread along the stem, and they bend and weave beautifully through all the frames." She also used Gloriosa Superba Simba Fifty Shades and Talinum ‘Long John’ in her demonstration. "This is actually one of my favourite materials, Talinum ‘Long John’. I use it in every demonstration and show I do. It's amazing material!" It was wonderful to see how Hanneke incorporated these varieties into her work!

Incredible Flower Art Installations

Visitors to the Féerie Florale exhibition were in for a treat! The rooms and outdoor spaces of Alden Biesen Castle were filled with floral arrangements that defied imagination. Nicu Bocancea was inspired by the theme ‘New Beginnings’ and created an impressive floating installation with water lily leaves above a thin layer of green algae. Tom De Houwer’s installation came to life during a stunning performance where parts of the work danced along with the music. We left the exhibition inspired and deeply impressed by the art of floral design.

We’re already looking forward to the next edition! Can’t wait? New events are already planned in Beloeil and Dendermonde.
